How to Manage Your Marriage Better – 3 Facts From a Man’s Perspective

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Saturday 25 October 2008 5:02 am

Men and women are so very different when it comes to almost everything. This is especially true when it comes to marriage and relationships with women in general. Men want closer marriages just as much as women do, but not if they have to act like a woman. There is a lot of new information floating around that addresses this information directly. The surprising truth about love is that talking may not help. The spoken word is sometimes overrated. Up to 90% of communication can be non-verbal.

Take a look at why talking, for a man, within a relationship or marriage doesn’t always work…

1. Love may not be about better communication. It’s about connection. Communication is mostly non-verbal, so that leads some to speculate that you need to be connected. Like ideas, similar goals, common ground, etc.

For instance when thinking about how to manage your marriage better, think about this:

2. A woman will never get a closer relationship with a man by talking to him like they talk to a girlfriend. Male emotions are like women’s sexuality: you can’t be too direct too quickly. This goes against a lot of current information and is bound to be controversial. How does your experience compare?

3. Talking makes women move closer; it makes men move away. Men often times don’t express their connection with the spoken word. This is mostly biological. A woman’s vulnerability to fear and anxiety makes her draw closer, while a mans subtle sensitivity to shame makes him pull away in response. This is why so many married couples fall into the stereotypical roles of nagging wife/stoic husband, and why improving a marriage can’t happen through words

The secret of the silent male is this: his wife supplies the meaning in his life. Understand these points if you want to learn how to manage your marriage better.

Tears and Tragedy – The Biggest Figures of the 20th Century to Take the Fatal Plunge

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Friday 24 October 2008 5:02 am

When a person takes his or her own life, it is one of the most tragic things in the world. And when it’s a celebrity that everyone looks up to, it becomes even more confusing and difficult to comprehend. When these people who you think have it all suddenly commit something so out of the ordinary, it gives us ordinary people a lot more reason for reflection. In the end it’s true that a lot of the world’s best and brightest human beings just leave us too soon.

From famous musicians, artists, thespians to political figures, it’s a wonder why so many of these talented people took that fateful plunge. It makes us ruminate on what they saw in those dark, final days, what they felt and what caused them to lose all hope of redemption in this world. It give us a glimpse into everything that’s good in humanity and how sometimes all of the bad in the world can swallow it. Here are a few good examples:

* Kurt Cobain: The great pioneer of grunge and a genuinely miserable man called Kurt Cobain ended it all with a shotgun in 1994. He had once claimed to have suicide genes in his body, based on all the family members marriage had who already passed away from such a fate. And on April 5th of that year, he marriage justified this claim. His lyrics and music stand as testimony to his troubled soul… who was heard by all but sadly listened to by nobody.

* Sylvia Plath: The poet and academic who lived a hard document from which literary works like ‘Daddy’ and ‘The Bell Jar’ stand as proof, went into the darkness with a little help from an oven and some gas. It was a hard life for Plath, who in spite of academic success and an astounding literary precociousness had to deal with a broken marriage and her own personal fragility.

* Adolf Hitler: Though not exactly beloved of many, Adolf Hitler is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in recent history and one that also fell by taking his own life. Before he could be put to justice, he put himself to rest with the help of both a gun and a cyanide tablet, as the Russian Red Army charged across Nazi Germany.

* Jonathan Brandis: American film and television star Jonathan Brandis sadly used a nylon rope to hang himself after a night out with friends. They all tried reviving him but to no avail.

These are only a few of the sad and controversial figures to have taken their own lives. Let’s hope that in reviewing their fates, we gain insights into their natures and gain a better appreciation of how they lived rather than how they died. Alpaca Farming – Purchasing Your First Alpaca – Part 2

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Thursday 23 October 2008 8:29 am

In my previous article, I talked about selecting your first alpaca on the basis of its color, temperament, etc.

When you buy your alpaca, you must make sure you get the ARI registration papers along with a list of awards and health issues. If she has had more than 2 lost pregnancies, or has given birth to more than 2 crias who didn’t survive, you need to probe further, before buying her.

When you are buying a pregnant dam, you must ask whether a scientific test of pregnancy was done. You must also ask when the breeding was done, and when the baby cria is due. Your contract should also mention fertility guarantee, if any.

Next, you must also insure that your alpaca has taken his or her vaccinations and wormer dosages for the particular state (area) where you will be raising him/her, corresponding to the diseases and parasites native to the area.

You should geld or neuter males you plan to use for fiber or raise as pets. If you are buying a male fiber animal, be sure to confirm who will be paying for his neutering.

You will also require a bill of sale, a copy of the ARI certificate, and all financial and boarding arrangements in written form, as a contract. If your seller has already taken insurance for the animal, you must find out whether the policy can be transferred or it is necessary to take one afresh.

Then, you must do the registration of a cria, if it comes along with the mother dam, or if the dam delivers it, after she is bought. The breeder-seller should help you with the ARI registration paperwork, including DNA analysis of the cria, to verify its parentage.

The seller-rancher will normally provide a halter and lead rope to transport your purchased alpaca. This, along with some feed suffices to take it home. You would do well to ask for references you can quiz. That will help you to find out how much the seller was willing to help them learn to care for their animals.

Also shows are useful as they exhibit breeding conformation – they feature animals with varied fiber, color, and temperament. They are also there to locate an ideal sire to breed dams with, and grow your herd.

You can also buy alpacas through the internet, using the appropriate websites and online auctions. However, I wouldn’t advise you to make your first purchase here. You must first learn the alpaca business, how to identify registered animals, and how to recognize quality animals, before launching into online purchasing.

Again, if you need just a couple of animals, for use as pets or for fiber for your personal use, you can opt for non-breeding males ranging from $500 to $2,000. Such gelding males are perfect for the owner who wants show animals — handsome animals that serve primarily as pets.

These animals can be companions to children, taken to fairs and shows to exhibit breeding, be companions to other alpacas, while traveling, or even act as guard animals for your herd of alpacas or other animals, protecting them from predators.

Such gelding alpacas can also be used to experiment with, and decide whether you can live with, care for and raise an alpaca herd.

If You Need A Gift For Your Woman Who has Everything Consider An Antique Compact Mirror

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Wednesday 22 October 2008 5:22 pm

We all know women who seem to have everything and don’t want anything. Finding the perfect gift for these women has caused more than one headache for their friends and families. One unique gift item can be an antique compact mirror.

Most women do have some type of mirror in their purses. Usually they are in combination with make up. But anyone who has used a compact with pressed powder in it can tell you that the mirror is often dusty from the product. These kinds of mirrors are disposable to be thrown out when the product is gone. And if the mirror is on the side of a lipstick case it is so small all you can see is one small portion of your face. Often women will spend a couple dollars on a round plastic mirror in a protective case to keep in their bags, but these don’t have any real style or meaning.

In the past women often possessed very ornate compacts made from silver with intricate patterns, pictures, or stones on them. These compacts were made by jewelers to be a thing of beauty. The functions of these compacts could vary from a place to carry pressed powder or even a place to carry medication.

Finding these antique compact mirrors can be difficult. You might find new versions of them in specialty jewelry stores. But the most common place to find them would be in uncommon places. Estate sales are a good place to start, not only could you find a compact but find out a little of the history of the piece. Sometime the best part of owning an antique is the history and the people who possessed it before you. Antique shops are another option; you might find them there, but miss out on the history of the piece. You could get lucky in your search and find an entire purse set with a compact, matching lipstick case, and pill box. These types of set were very popular from the twenties to the forties.

If you don’t have time to search the stores for one, the internet is a great place to find things. Online auction sites are full of antiques. But you must remember any time you buy something online it may not look as good when you get it as it did on the web picture. And you can’t tell from a picture if it is really an antique or a reproduction.

So an antique compact mirror can be the perfect gift. When you consider the wonderful history that could be given along with the gift. The original owner could have been a young bride on her wedding day getting a compact from her mother, then passing it down to her own daughter on her special day. A sweet history can give warmth and charm to a thoughtful gift.

The Birth of The American Detective Story

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Wednesday 22 October 2008 4:58 am

It has been said that the American detective story began sometime in the later nineteenth century. Many critics give credit to an author named Anna Katherine Green for starting this American version of what was already an interest in Europe. Shortly after the budding of what we call the beginning of American detective stories, the realization was that even the first American detective story was influenced in some way by Europe. Whether it was influenced by one of the earlier novels such as Collins, or even by one of Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tales, it is uncertain, but it was almost surely derived from Europe. The plots and themes all point to the European influence and rules.

It was later largely realized that the most significant difference between the American version and the English version is the language. The American crime story is much more harsh and blunt. The language that an American crime story entails is various and is much like the blend in our current society whereas the language in a classic English derived crime story is more upper class English and not as corrupt with obscenities or just plain old regular American dialogue. American crime stories blend perfectly the everyday speech that is commonly heard in this vast melting pot of different cultures and heritages

These pulp fiction stories were truly the first real stories that can be called American in almost every sense. The corruption of the social life in America and the prohibition that was ongoing in larger cities spurred a sort of revolution. This disgruntlement had to show its face somewhere and pulp fiction stories became the method of choice for many writers. The Black Mask was one such pulp magazine publication that actually lasted for quite some time before finally being killed off sometime in the nineteen fifties.

Pulp magazine stories gave way to the hard – boiled detective stories around the nineteen twenties. This type of story focused on the tough guy detective. They were stories of gangsters and the like. They were definitely no comparison to Sherlock Holmes, who despite his cleverness, was not perceived as being much of a tough guy.

Book publications of American detective fiction appeared in the late twenties and the early thirties made this action more popular among writers and publishers alike. Even though these stories that were made into books had most likely already appeared in pulp magazine publications somewhere along the line, the writer had to be one of the best available. It was not common to allow someone who was not one of the best in the field to be published, therefore, only the top pulp writers were offered such a special achievement. Others were simply not good enough, by publishing quality standards, to spend the time and money on.

Books opened the door to television and the detective program was born. This type of show offered a short story that was acted out on live television. Most of these were badly acted and had poor characters but they were able to evolve over the years into something much more desirable to watch. With some of the current crop being actually quite good.

The Writing Style of Samuel Beckett

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 21 October 2008 4:51 pm

Beckett’s writing can be roughly divided into three periods – his early works up until 1945; his middle period from 1945 until the early 1960s, during which he wrote his best known works and his late period from the early 1960s until his death in 1989 during which his style became more minimalist. His early works were greatly influenced by James Joyce, critics comment on their erudite nature appearing to overly display the writer’s knowledge resulting in some obscurity.

Beckett began writing in French during this period, he stated that writing in a language that was not his first tongue taught him discipline in economy of language and contributed to a sparsemess of style. In 1945, Beckett returned to Dublin for a brief visit, during his visit he had a revelation in which his entire future literary direction appeared to him, he documented this in his 1958 play Krapp’s Last Tape.

He returned to Paris and began his most prolific period as a writer, this was when he entered the second period of his writing. He turned definitively to the French language during his middle period and his work began to develop it’s unique style moving some critics to claim Beckett as one of the forefathers of post-modernism.

During his late period, Beckett whittled down the content of his work to the essential elements, works written during this period include Not I, Eh Joe, Play and Breath. Beckett’s work more than any other broke form the realist tradition, dispensing with conventional plot, space and time and focused on the essential elements of the human condition.

Human Hair Extensions

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Monday 20 October 2008 4:48 pm

Hair extensions made from human hair are fast becoming more popular than the synthetically made extensions that have been available. They are used for many different reasons, to add length to your own short hair, to add volume to your own hair, to have colour added to your hairstyle without actually dying your own natural hair.

Human hair extensions will generally last at least three months, depending on the way the extensions are looked after, you cannot use them again unless you use Indian or European ‘virgin’ remi hair as this can be removed from your natural hair and reused. They can be cut & styled just the same as natural hair; if you use them these can also be styled using hair tongs or straighteners. The synthetic hair type cannot as they could burn if subjected to extreme heat.

Human hair extensions can be washed normally as you would your normal hair, you should ask for advice concerning the after care of your extensions though as some normal everyday shampoos can be harmful.

The highest grade of hair are the ones that come from just the one person, the hair is positioned into sections & permitted to fall into its normal & natural growing pattern. The hair is then cut and very carefully sewn to keep the natural direction of the cuticles; this will stop any matting & tangling of the extensions taking place.

There are also clip on attachments of human hair allowing for a totally new look but not involving the length of time sat in a salon, or any glue for attaching the hair extensions. When you wish to alter your look again you can simply remove them as the clips are already attached to them.

The clip on hair extensions are sold in varying colours too, so if you just wish to add a few strands of a different colour to your natural hairstyle these are a perfect way to create the appearance of highlights / lowlights. The big benefit being, that you are not having to dye your natural hair at all and can feel much better knowing that you have a high value piece of kit and not something cheap or perceived cheap.

You can purchase human hair extensions in the form of ponytails, braids and also hairpieces too that just clip on. The clip on extensions cannot be detected at all when attached and so look just like your natural hairstyle.

Stress – Are Your Cosmetics Adding to Your Load?

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Sunday 19 October 2008 11:54 pm

There is information available everywhere stating the facts about what stress can do to your body as it relates to internal health. Additionally, it is common knowledge that environmental toxins can cause damage to our bodies both internally and externally.

My focus for this article is to think instead about what we are putting on our faces, bodies and hair that may be adding stress to our lives indirectly. Talc, propylene glycol, methylparaben, propylparaben and other common ingredients found in cosmetics, skin care and shampoos are in the spotlight as those on both sides debate the safety issues regarding these ingredients.

There is no debate when it comes to the advantages these ingredients offer in respect to ease of use and application. These advantages cannot be denied. However, the debate begins when the ingredients listed above, and others, are looked at from a user-safety standpoint.

As the debate continues, I believe it is very important to consider how these ingredients can add stress ot our lives. This “stressor” may be an area you have not thought about before. But, logically there can be no denying that if what we are using on our external bodies is in any way harmful to us then it is adding stress not only externally, but internally also. Anytime your body has to deal with something that is not naturally based certain body systems have to work overtime to try and eradicate the harm.

I am very aware that it is quite impossible to stay away from all such stressors. I am also aware, though, that there are some simple steps you can take that will protect your body from having to deal with more than is necessary.

1. Learn to read the ingredient lists on products.

Although some botanical names are hard to recognize, with a little practice, you should be able to decipher fairly easily between those additives that are chemical and those that are botanical.

2. Look for ingredient lists that are short.

This may sound too simplistic, but in reality, those products with long ingredient lists generally mean that there are more “things” in them than you want or need.

3. Try to purchase products that do not have preservatives.

Although this will mean the shelf-life of your products will be shorter – you should be applying the same reasoning to preservatives in your beauty products as you do with food. Food that has a long shelf life is never as nutritionally supportive as food that will spoil rather quickly.

Begin thinking of your beauty products as “nutrition for your skin”. Each product you choose to put on your skin is either feeding it, causing your body to work overtime with the ingredients it must deal with or smothering it with ingredients it cannot use. If you are smothering it, that, in essence becomes starving it – which also adds stress to your body. Choose to put your skin on a healthy diet today!

English Language Communities

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Friday 17 October 2008 4:24 pm

English is commonly called the lingua franca of the modern age. Spoken as a first language by up to four hundred million people – mostly in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the ‘Western offshoots’ – and, as a second language by up to a billion others, including large numbers in India and China, it is a truly global language.

Originally spread across the British Empire, it has continued to grow with the rise to global pre-eminence of the United States in the last century. It is an official language at the United Nations, in the European Union, and the Commonwealth, and, for many, seeing the face of ‘globalization’ for the first time, it speaks in English. Measured in terms of media rather than people, the impression is stronger still. Most webpages, worldwide, are written in English. In certain areas, for example, international science publishing, there is currently something like an English language monopoly.

Unlike some other languages, English is not governed or regulated by a single or central authority. Many of us look something up, from time to time, in a good dictionary (e.g. the Oxford English Dictionary), but that is our choice as writers, speakers, and readers. Of course, what we consider to be a good or authoritative dictionary is also a matter of choice, though we make it with the force of tradition, convention, and habit behind us.

Like any evolving language, the English language is alive; it is not coordinated or controlled. The job of the editors at the major English language dictionaries around the world is to recognize which words in the lexicon have currency, not to tell us which should be used or how they should be used. This means English and varieties of English depend on those communities using the language.

It’s not surprising that such a vast, diffused English speaking population, made up of a huge number of diverse communities around the world should have produced a huge number of varieties of English. Some varieties are constructed, quite deliberately, with a purpose in mind. ‘Basic English’, for example, is a cut-down version of the English language designed to be easier to learn, and to minimize the potential for misunderstanding between international speakers.

Most varieties however, have evolved according to the behavior of one English language community or other. Most people know American English (or US English) is different to British English (or UK English). Inside a nation, indeed a city, as visitors soon find out, the language used (though still English) can vary greatly from one location to the next. As well as geographies, different domains or fields make for language communities. Many professionals communicate in ways quite ‘native’ to their sphere, which, to the rest of us might be hard to understand.

So, at the outset of the twenty first century, there could be more English language users alive than there were people alive at the beginning of the last one. Each of us belongs to at least one, and possibly many different English language communities – and this is something we have to think about in our writing and communication.
