Reinvent Your Wardrobe With Key Fashion Accessories

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 30 September 2008 11:13 am

What do you do when your wardrobe needs a boost? Why, you can either get an entirely new one, or reinvent the one you currently have. It’s all well and good if you’ve got the budget because you can just say goodbye to your closet’s depressing contents and splurge on new clothes. For those who know all too well that money doesn’t grow on trees, however, the latter is not such a bad option at all! With a few well-chosen and stylish fashion accessories, you can totally reinvent your wardrobe without having to sell your soul to the devil.

1. Get key pieces that you can mix and match into different ensembles. This includes clothes and trendy fashion accessories. This will allow you to take your wardrobe into different directions to make it look like you have more clothes than you actually have. Take the classic little black dress (LBD), for example. You can go for a fresh, daytime look by wearing it with a pastel-colored cardigan, colorful sandals, and simple jewelry. Or, you can wear it to a sophisticated social event with patent leather pumps, a strand of pearls, and stylish crocheted shawl.

2. Scarves are fashion accessories you can’t do without. They might seem like no more than strips of cloth, but they do go a long way in jazzing up any ensemble. A few scarves in different fabrics, colors, and prints can spell the difference between classic and fun. Still taking the LBD as an example, a silk scarf with a unique print knotted around your neck adds a splash of color without deviating from the classic look. For a fun, sporty look, a long, knitted muffler around the neck in a bright color or two should do the trick, while a simple cashmere wrap around your shoulders gives you a look of cozy sophistication.

3. Don’t underestimate the power of the blue jeans and white t-shirt. With the right fashion accessories, you can wear these staples all year round. Simply add in sunglasses, flip-flops, and a cute straw bag during the summer. Come fall, you can wear your jeans and white t-shirt with smart, suede mules and a wool hat. In winter, warm up the ensemble with a knitted cape, boots with fur trim, and a leather purse. For spring, wear it with a crocheted shrug and ballet flats or gladiator sandals.

4. Go for unique, even unusual, pieces of jewelry. Pieces such as these make a statement, and can turn even the simplest outfit into an uber sophisticated frock. Keep an eye out for multi-colored, semi-precious stones and finely crafted pieces. You can even go for costume jewelry, which make great fashion accessories because they’re more imaginative and a lot cheaper than gold or silver pieces.

5. Be unexpected. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your wardrobe and fashion accessories into unconventional and unexpected combinations. This will not only give you an edgier, more unpredictable style, your wardrobe options are also considerably wider. It also gives you the opportunity to let your personal style shine through. Of course, do check and double check the whole effect before you even step out of the house. Better yet, get a second opinion. Also, don’t overdo it, and do observe propriety. Other than that, you can never go wrong with being adventurous!

6. Fashion accessories show that you care. Believe it or not, they do. They show that you care for the event you’re attending, for your companion, and even for yourself. They show that you took extra care to look your best and most stylish. Even if you’re in a hurry with no time to dress up, take care to wear a few key pieces of jewelry, grab a trendy handbag, and put on stylish shoes. There’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t bother, and every reason why you should.

Indeed, with a few key fashion accessories in your arsenal, you’ll never have a boring wardrobe. If anything, you’ll end up with the best one out there. Stock up on those key pieces and show your individuality. Before you know it, you’ll be fashion icon – and to think it’s all thanks to a few fashion accessories!

I believe coach legacy perfume important for you to develop a coach legacy perfume statement for your life; one that is unique and articulates your values, goals, dreams; how you want to live.

Your mission statement is a living, breathing testimony of the life you are committed to living. It is also a way to pull yourself back from the darkness when you are feeling lost in the minutiae of misery.

I read my mission statement every morning and it grounds me and reminds me what is important and how I want to be that day. I have not shared this with others before now, because it is intensely personal, but I thought I would share it in this article, in hopes that you will write your own mission statement as one of the first steps in your own sacred journey.

MY JOURNEY by Dr. Tim Sams

I will live with the courage of an open heart, free of convention or expectation.

I will feel passionate about what I do and how I live.

I will shed the toxic and be healed by me and what I bring into my life.

I will feel as one with Mother Earth and my tribe.

I will merge my creative loving energy with others and make fire.

I will learn and mature in wisdom and encourage others to follow their unique path.

I will squeeze every drop of joy and playfulness that I can from Life, then release my exhausted body to the earth and my grateful spirit to the winds.

May the universe then know: I lived with purpose; I loved with passion; I laughed often.

* * *

I hope you have a glorious and loving week. Be as good to yourself as you are to others.

Good light,

Executive Coaching For Inspirational Leaders – The Important Relationship With The Manager

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 30 September 2008 8:34 am

Fully engaged people at work have a good relationship with their boss. It makes a world of difference to work for someone you respect and who cares about you.

My coaching clients who are happy at work report liking their immediate supervisor. I hear all of the complaints about the bad boss and hope that there are greener pastures elsewhere.

Do you possess the qualities of a good boss? Do employees want to work for you?

Based on a wealth of data, the Gallup Organization attempted to define not only what makes a great company, but because so much depends upon it, what makes a great manager.

In our current labor markets, companies compete to find and keep the best employees, using pay, benefits, promotions, impressive job titles and training. But these well-intentioned efforts miss the mark. The most important element in attracting and retaining key employees is the front-line manager.

The Gallup study found that people were not necessarily loyal to the company, but rather to the unit they worked in, and this was because of their feelings toward their immediate supervisor.

No matter how generous its pay, benefits or training, a company that lacks great supervisors and managers will suffer. Great managers, according to the Gallup research, have the following behaviors that set them apart from others:

1. They select an employee for talent rather than for skills or experience.

2. They set clear expectations and define the right outcomes rather than the right steps.

3. They motivate people, by building on their strengths rather than trying to fix their weaknesses.

4. As each employee grows, they encourage them to find the right fit for their strengths within the organization.

Are you a great leader of people?

Working with a seasoned executive coach trained in emotional intelligence and incorporating leadership assessments such as the BarOn EQi and CPI 260 can help you become a more inspiring leader who builds a culture that will engage and retain top talent. You can become a leader who models emotional intelligence and social intelligence, and who inspires people to become happily engaged with the strategy and vision of the company.

Strong Women, Strong Fathers – Lara Croft, Jessie Fremont, Condoleezza Rice

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 30 September 2008 8:25 am

Jessie was born on May 31, 1824 in near Lexington, Virginia. She was the daughter of a famous and powerful U.S. Senator who not only doted on his daughter but included her in meetings with Washington officials and trained her to assist him in his work. Jessie’s attention from her father falls under the Zeus-Athena category where the father is the one who helps his weaker-sex daughter gain power and prestige in society. It is because of the father’s influence and power that the young woman is tolerated by society instead of ostracized, ignored or even in some cases burned at the stake as a witch.

Many movies and storylines today still feature women who owe their strength to their father. This archetypal thread is seen in Angelina Jolie’s character, Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movies. In these storylines, the mother is either dead or negligible because of a weakness in character. It is amazing how many times a strong female character is attributed to a powerful father instead of a powerful mother. It is almost as if we see a woman who is successful and then discover that her relationship with her father was like an internship and we say “Oh, that explains it…” I am looking forward to a shift in society when a woman attributes her success to her mother’s strength and abilities.

A couple of years ago, Forbes Magazine dubbed Condoleezza Rice “The Most Powerful Woman in the World.” I wanted to learn more about her because I am amazed at how well she handles herself in front of the press. How did she manage to always present herself with poise? She is always articulate even when others try desperately to ruffle her feathers. It didn’t take long for me to figure out how she became such a powerhouse. I believe Condoleezza is so successful because her parents already knew their daughter was the most powerful girl (woman) in the world. It just took Forbes Magazine decades to catch on.

I’ve studied what little information I could find about how Condolezza Rice grew up. She had an incredibly supportive mother and father but I felt that the biographical information emphasized her father’s role in her upbringing more than her mother’s role.

Condoleezza was the only child of John and Angelena Rice. Angelena named her daughter after an Italian musical reference to play music “with sweetness”. With foresight, her mother aptly named her as Condoleezza’s persona has been like honey in drawing a varied collection of friends into her life. Her ex-students, professional football players, Vladimir Putin, the Bush Family, and the children of the New Generation (an after-school program Condoleezza co-founded for disadvantaged youth in East Palo Alto) are just a few examples.

Condoleezza was born on November 14, 1954. Her father referred to her from that time forward as his “Little Star”. From birth, Condoleezza was raised within a strong community and family life. Her father was the reverend of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, a high school coach, and a high school guidance counselor. Her mother was a high school music teacher and played the organ at the church. Her parents commitment to the members of their community gave Condoleezza a first-hand glance at the power that comes from making a difference in your community, giving her a place within the community as a star within the constellation – creating a whole picture with those around her.

“The multiethnic part [of American society] does not work without another important value: belief in upward mobility. The core of that has always been the ability to level the playing field through education. Unless education is provided to all…that part of the dream will be lost.”[i]

Condoleezza summarizes her family’s legacy in that statement. For generations, Condoleezza’s family created opportunities for themselves and their children by committing themselves to education. Self-teaching and making sure they attended university was a tradition with her family. Her parents had very high expectations of Condoleezza. They exposed her to ballet, French, music, current events, football and other athletics. They felt as if her survival depended on a comprehensive education.

Condoleezza’s father worked with many children in the community that didn’t have the same home opportunities as she did. He was always encouraging someone to make the most of themselves. Condoleezza followed in his footsteps with several civic commitments, including, as I mentioned before, co-founding an after-school program in Northern California while she was a professor at Stanford University.

Fracas by Robert Piguet – Timeless Cult Fragrance of the Happy Few

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 30 September 2008 8:19 am

Smells, like sounds and colors spark off emotions, especially when harmoniously combined, like musical chords. Situations and conflicts can also provoke emotions. The overwhelming feelings experienced by audiences of films or plays were already known by the classic Greek tragedians : they called these extreme changes in emotions “catharsis”, which can translate as purification.

In his work “Poetics”, Aristotle has analysed how the triggering of sudden intense emotional disruptions result in a feeling of renewal, restoration and cleansing. Like a beneficial storm, the cathartis or purification’s mysterious psychological process leaves us refreshed and revitalized but transformed.

Works of art capable to bring us to the level of catharsis are few: poems, plays, songs, symphonies, paintings or now films they remain the legacy of giants, the Homer, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Mozart or van Gogh. They are the great timeless classics and speak a universal language. By ephemeral means, true artists have always tried to reach the universal after an often painful emotional journey through their own human natures. Results can sometimes be ambiguous as remarked British art critic Walter Pater (1839-1894) in his writings about the mystery of Mona Lisa , “this beauty into which the soul with all its maladies has passed.”

Scientists now know that the sense of smell is not perceived by the cortex of the brain. Smells connect straight into the lower brain, which relates to memories and emotions. As a result, if fragrances do not have any ” cognitive” effect, they can have an enormous emotional impact. The same scientists have also found out that women are more receptive to colors and smells than men.

Perfume making, like film making is a new art form. Less acknowledged than the so called “fine arts” perhaps, but a true art form nevertheless. Modern perfume making actually started in the 1920′s. New chemical components called “aldehydes” opened the possibilities to create elaborate complex compositions. Aldehydes make fragrance notes “sparkle”. Emotions provoked by compositions of well arranged fragrance notes are more intense.

Among the multiple fragrances available today, very few have reached the status of true classics. One of the most famous is Chanel’s No.5, actually one of the first “artificial” perfumes deliberately created as a composition. There is no coincidence in the fact that Chanel No.5 has had its popularity enhanced by several emotionally very influential artists. Everyone knows Marilyn Monroe’s witty reply when asked once by some journalist what she wore in bed: “Why, Chanel No.5 of course!” Andy Warhol also contributed to make Chanel No.5 into a pop icon when he created several of his world famous silkscreens with the No.5 bottle as a motif.

Less widely known but a true masterpiece, Robert Piguet’s Fracas is now gaining in popularity after having for years remained a cult fragrance among the privileged and the happy few. The very concept of Fracas is intentionally disruptive and emotional. Fracas, in French means tumult with nuances that could be conveyed through words like ram, crash, blast, or irrupt. It was intentionally provocative but also intriguing. Like a mystery. Fracas puts you in a mood where you want to know more about the person who wears it: it is insolent but also spell-binding. Emotional, sensuous, carnal and very sexy. You get hypnotized and enchanted.

I discovered Fracas as a young fashion model in New York many years ago. At the time I was wearing some of Kiehl’s famous compositions like “Rain” or “Smoke”. I also enjoyed a fine citrus fragrance called “Love” which has now disappeared. Coming once into a studio where I was booked, I had the surprise to discover that I would work in the company of one of the models I admired the most, Donna Mitchell. She was surrounded with this fascinating fragrance and I asked her about it. She told me the story of Fracas. In the evening, when I came back home, I had bought my first bottle and started a long love story with this perfume.

Fracas was the creation of Swiss born Robert Piguet (1898-1953) one of the era’s most talented fashion designers in Paris. With the cooperation of specialist Germaine Cellier, Piguet had launched his first fragrance, Bandit, in 1945. Cellier and Piguet then started to work on a completely new concept: a fragrance which would be of the utmost elegance but at the same time very provocative and emotionally charged. It came out in 1948. Piguet chose the name Fracas.

An intriguing, complex and rousing composition of tuberose, jonquil, jasmine, lilac and white iris, Fracas was too disruptive and too carnal not to provoke some hesitations and was not immediately accepted. Robert Piguet unfortunately fell ill shortly after. A perfectionist, he did not want his fashion house to survive him. After selling the expensive real estate, he generously gave a part of the money to his 400 employees and retired in Lausanne where he died in 1953.

Less strict with his fragrances, Robert Piguet accepted the continuation of his line of perfumes. But without the back-up of a powerful commercial organisation, Bandit and Fracas could not really compete with other fragrances from larger companies.

Few fragrances have been copied as much as Fracas. Its influence can be perceived in many recent compositions, which have often tried to provoke similar emotional reactions. Over the years it has remained the secret cult fragrance of many celebrities from different generations : today it is the favorite of icons like Princess Caroline of Monaco, Madonna, Uma Thurman, Courtney Love and many others.

Single Girl’s Guide to Makeover Magic

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Tuesday 30 September 2008 12:06 am

Let’s face it, girlfriends. Thanks to cable TV, we’re now addicted to endless episodes of makeover shows where each “Plain Jane,” with her closet-from-hell, learns to choose the right clothes, makeup, and hair style, then right before our eyes, transforms into a real beauty! And, ever notice how looking great makes her feel empowered? And, all in less than an hour! Amazing!

But, what if this new self-confident charmer is one of the millions of your single sisters on the hunt for Prince Charming, who happens to be on the hunt for his Princess Charming? Well, in that case, this might be the perfect time to check in with your mirror, mirror on the wall to see how you fair with all this growing competition.

You know, Cinderella had this so easy. With the wave of a wand, and a bit of “bibbity bobbity boo,” her fairy godmother morphed her from rags to riches, then sent her off to the Ball looking like the Princess she was about to become, and the rest is history!

In the real world, this all gets a bit more complicated. For starters, chances are your prince will first see you dressed for the mall, not the Ball. Plus, your chances of being the next TV makeover are pretty slim. You could hire a fashion savvy godmother, AKA a fashion consultant, but if a fee of $200 + is not in your budget, what’s a girl like you to do when the whole point is to leave a first impression that leaves a potential prince wanting more?

Well, a girl like you will take charge of her life. Presenting the I’ll Do It MYSELF Makeover!

You start with your face. Of course, if you’re thinking, “How ’bout I start with something else,” remember Cindy Crawford’s immortal words: “Even I don’t wake up looking like Cindy Crawford.” So, again, your face is your focus, specifically the colors of your face. I promise you, when you learn how to use the power of color to compliment your eyes, skin, and natural hair color, just like on the makeover shows, magic will happen! Those eyes will sparkle and your complexion will glow. And, glowing is definitely a plus for first impressions, especially when your prince will remember forever the first time he saw your face.

On the other hand, glowing is practically impossible when you wear colors that clash with your own. For example, if you have watercolor eyes, translucent skin, and hair the color of soft wheat, imagine the catastrophe of deep bronze makeup, double black eyeliner, and a dayglow dress with dark chunky jewelry. Right! Not good! The strong colors overpower your own, and POOF! you disappear. Wearing colors paler than your own washes out your natural glow so you look tired and older than you are. Again, not good. To go for the glow, here are the “must knows” that make it happen!

UNDERSTANDING BASIC COLOR ANALYSIS

Many fashion consultants rely on the Munsell Color System to accurately determine a client’s color palette. This scientific system is based on three components: HUE, VALUE, and CHROMA:

HUE is simply the color’s name.
Simple Hues: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple.
Compound hues: Yellow-Red, Green-Yellow, Blue-Green, Purple-Blue and Red-Purple.
VALUE: How light or dark a color is.
The more white in a color, the higher the value. True black has the lowest value, true white has the highest.
CHROMA: The clarity or strength of the color.
Muted, grayed colors have low chroma; clear, vibrant, bright colors have high chroma.

HOW TO DETERMINE MAKEUP COLORS

FOUNDATION: Match to the skin tone at the outer corner of your eyes. Blend the makeup on your face and neck, and then match to your skin tone in both indoor lighting and sunlight. Hint: To ensure you choose the correct foundation color, take a friend along for a second opinion.

EYE MAKEUP: Use your lash and brow color for everyday mascara, eye liner and brow pencil. For a more dramatic effect, increase the makeup’s color value. Choose eye shadow in your eye or brow color. Hint: Your eyes contain a rainbow of complimentary colors. Use a magnifying mirror to see the full spectrum.

LIPSTICK and BLUSH: Match to your cheeks and lips. Gently pinch both cheeks and lips, noting if the color goes pink, red, or orange.

With a bit of practice, your makeup routine will take you from ordinary to glowing in five minutes or less.

HOW TO DETERMINE WARDROBE COLORS

If you’ve spent a lifetime believing you can’t wear certain colors, then understanding Hue, Value, and Chroma opens up a whole new world. Just imagine! Red is not just one color, but a full range of options from yellow-red to purple-red, from pastel pink to deepest burgundy, all from which you choose the reds that compliment you.

REDS: Your cheek and lip colors
GREENS / BLUES: For green or blue eyes, use your eye color. For brown or black eyes, use green or blue in your eye “rainbow,” or use a color wheel to match your eye color to complimentary greens or blues. www.realcolorwheel.com/colorwheel.htm
YELLOWS: Trickiest of all colors to determine. Usually Summers and Springs wear soft yellow; Falls wear golden yellow; Winters wear intense, bright yellow.
NEUTRALS: Current or former (if your hair is colored or grayed) natural hair color, and eyes if primarily brown or black. Use neutrals for suits, coats, skirts, pants, jackets, shoes and purses.

These descriptions only touch the surface of how color transforms your self image and creates unforgettable first impressions! The services of a professional consultant, preferably one trained in the Munsell System, are invaluable for assessing your color palette, complimentary prints, accessories, makeup, body proportion, and fashion and hair style. Fees can range from $200 to $1000+, but, considering the money you’ve wasted buying makeup that just never worked, and clothes still hanging with their price tags in the back of your closet as you cry “I have nothing to wear!”, a professional analysis is a bargain. In the meantime, here’s a list of shopping hints to get your transformation started!

SHOPPING HINTS:

* To build a coordinated, workable wardrobe, determine your basic needs based on your lifestyle, such as professional, casual, evening, hobbies and athletic clothing. For each area, purchase a core outfit, such as a professional suit, a cocktail dress, slacks and complimentary jacket, plus a few blouses, sweaters, and accessories.

* You don’t need a king’s ransom to look like a million! Even drug stores carry quality makeup. Shop end of season sales, and consignment and thrift stores for quality clothes and accessories. Many a Princess does!

* Collect fabric swatches by asking a fabric store or seamstress to save you scraps. Also, don’t forget your closet! If you own colors in your palette, just snip a swatch from inside the hem. Keep your swatches in an envelope to bring when you shop.

* When shopping, first match the item to your colors. Next, double check in a mirror. Hold the item by your face, then ask the $64,000 question: “Does this color compliment or clash with my natural coloring?” If “yes,” try it on to check that the fit flatters your body. If color and fit are both “yes,” buy it. If color and fit are “no,” no matter how much you love it, pass. Remember, you glow when the colors that you wear compliment the colors that you are.

* To spice up any outfit, think accessories. Before you run out to the mall in those great fitting jeans, add sunglasses and earrings, or throw a beautiful scarf around the collar of your coat. You will radiate “I care how I look, and I look and feel great”! Not a bad first vibe, especially for an unsuspecting prince watching extraordinary you emerge from an ordinary crowd of shoppers.

* Gather your “other seasons” sisters for a wardrobe “swap meet.” Some of my favorite clothes, scarves, and jewelry have come from just such an event!

One final fashion accessory that promises to get you glowing every moment of every day: Believe you are the Princess worthy of the Prince you dream of. Then, dress to prove it.

Plus Size Fashion – Tips For Plus Size Shopping

Posted by admin | Uncategorized | Monday 29 September 2008 11:50 pm

If you are a plus-sized girl or woman, you already know that shopping can be a chore. Every woman, no matter what her size is, needs a shopping strategy, and if you already know that clothes that fit well are going to be harder to find, it goes double for you! Take a look at a few tips below and make sure that your fashion sense stays sharp this winter.

First, there’s a good chance that you’ve been told to stick to dark colors like black, gray and maroon, but this is not really the case. Cut will always beat color in terms of importance when it comes to looking good, so when it boils down to it, a well-cut outfit in tangerine orange will look just as good as one in charcoal gray. Make sure that the outfits you are wearing aren’t just composed of tubes; look for a taper around the waist and hips, depending on your build and make sure that above all, you clothing is comfortable. Similarly, make sure that no matter what you wear, you feel good in it.

Not all body types look good in the same style of clothes. Oftentimes, “plus-sized” lines of apparel are only oversized versions of their garments for smaller women. The sad reality is that these clothes were designed with the smaller woman in mind, and frequently do not have the same flattering effect on the plus size girl. Stand in front of your mirror and decide what features you’d like to accentuate, rather than what you’d like to disguise. If you have voluptuous curves, pick styles of clothing that enhance them. Wide-hipped women should opt for curvy A-line skirts rather than broomstick skirts. When shopping for skirts, be conscious of hem length. Skirts that fall at your calf will shorten the appearance of your legs, but floor- or knee-length skirts will flatter.

Layering is absolutely the best way to stay warm on a cold winter’s day, and stacking several summer tops is better looking and more stylish than wearing bulky sweaters. Look for colors that complement each other and look good on you, and you’ll end up with a mix and match wardrobe that can work for every season. Your outline will also be slimmer and more attractive than when you’re wearing a huge sweater that “pouches out” around your middle.

Keep in mind that shopping for plus sized clothing does not mean you have to settle for ugly designs or ill-fitting garments. If you put in enough time and effort you will find clothes that will make you look great.
